The importance of Emotional Awareness
Understanding your body’s emotions takes time. It’s all about starting with being more aware of your personal dialogue in your mind. You can start by sitting to just feel. You take time to get yourself comfortable. Learn different ways to breathe. Learn different ways to stretch to take care of the body. This will be the start of your self soothing journey. Learning what your mind and body need to hear and feel in order to provide true balance. This is where your self care tool kit comes in handy. Finding the affirmations to counteract the negative thought patterns in our minds. Soothing scents or activities that help you feel more stable. We are born with the ability to defend and protect ourselves. Our brains are hard wired to defend. WE must learn soothing techniques to release old patterns of survival mode. We must actively seek and live the life we want for ourselves. This is why it’s important to develop a Sacred Space. A scared space is a special location with your favorite self soothing techniques, objects, trinkets etc. That you can use as your unique healing space. Taking a look at the oils listed below will give you an idea of some soothing scents to add to your self care routine. Although these scents have been known to help. individuals relax make sure that you also enjoy the way it smells! It won’t work if you are unhappy about the scent. No reason to ever force self soothing and self care techniques. The point is to let it be natural and something you look forward to.
FRANKINCENSE
This scent is woody and spicy. This fragrance of makes it one of the most calming because it actively slows down the breathing process and enables you to take long, deep breaths to calm you down.
Not only can this be a relaxing scent but, Frankincense also known as Boswellia serrata traditionally used as a medication against inflammatory diseases. It contains α- and β-boswellic acid, swell as other pentacyclic triterpenic acids, which inhibit pro-inflammatory processes via 5-lipoxygenase and cyclo-oxygenase.1
LAVENDER
Lavender is by far one of the most popular used scent for relaxation. This is the most liked smell. You only need a few drops of this oil if in a diffuser. You can also rub lavendar reeds in your hand to feel and enjoy the scent in your palms. Soothing, calming and relaxing, lavender contains the relaxing effects of linalool, it is considered a fragrant alcohol found that is found in lavender extracts.
ROMAN CHAMOMILE
Roman chamomile is popular for relaxing teas. It is calming, balancing and deeply relaxing, producing a gentle and restorative effect. You can also diffuse, light a candle or draw a bath to receive the calming aroma. Drinking Chamomile can help you sleep so I would recommend this when you are free to nap or go to bed for the evening. 2

Neroli is a light, sweet floral fragrance with an hint of citrus. Neroli is considered to have calming, soothing and uplifting effects with the ability to enhance mental wellbeing by relieving stress and anxiety. This is also used for pain relief, depression, and skin care. 3
SWEET MARJORAM
Marjoram is delicate herb with a sweet, floral and lightly spiced scent. This oil may induce calm and relaxation on both the body and mind while relieving nervous stress and anxiety. This herb produces heart health, digestive issues, hormonal balance, infections skin care and more. 4
YLANG-YLANG
The exotic fragrance contains multiple other scents to create the scent of ylang ylang. It includes floral notes nuanced with aspects of creamy, balsamic and powdery custard, hint of jasmine, sweet, slightly pungent banana, light and bitter neroli and sensual, sugary honey. The benefits of ylang-ylang calms, uplifts and creates a sense of peace, making it ideal for aromatherapy techniques, such as massage, or for meditation. Rose is a powerful self healing scent. It is sweet, fresh powdery scent. The use of rose essential oils and rose water can help reduce stress and anxiety, helping you to relax and unwind. This oil is gentle on the skin helping to clear acne or skin irritations.8
JASMINE
Sensual, rich and sweet. The floral scent of jasmine is considered uplifting and calming. This oil helps with anxiety, depression, pms, encouraging better night sleep and more. 9
